- Thanks to Mackay for sending us all the info on their upcoming (final) round
of the NQ Sunshine Series! You can download it
here in PDF format. Use
Right-click on the link, follow the prompts to download the file to your
computer, or click on it to read it on screen.

- Due to popular request (one), we've made the font size a bit bigger!
Sunday May 9 2004
- El Arish DH results are posted on the results page,
following a chaotic day of rain, mud and swamp-like conditions.
Congratulations to those who turned up and raced on the day, especially for
the young guys having their first race - you couldn't possibly have picked
worse conditions (unless we can arrange to truck in some snow...). Pics at
GordonG.com. Thanks for having us, Miles, hope your land gets better soon :)
Thursday May 6 2004
- More info on El Arish: MTX is $10 nomination, DH is
$20 nomination. Practice for DH is most of the weekend, but we'll probably
have to start racing some time around noon on Sunday. Don't forget, it's
still a fun weekend. Miles will be supplying food at reasonable prices
Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime. I don't know what you'll get and I
don't know who's cooking it, but please remember that part of the funds from
the weekend go to support Miles in his overseas racing later this year, so
be there!
You should now be able to find us at
www.cairnsmtb.com instead of any of the old bookmarks you have been using.
If it doesn't work for you now, it will within probably 24 hours from now. The
new domain location should have propagated throughout Australia by now, the
rest of the planet may lag behind a little. We also have a new email address,
info at cairnsmtb dot com (I'd like to keep it
off the spam list so that's why I'm not listing it correctly here or on the
Contact page.)

- I hate that... Not being able to get information from a race
meeting. Anyway, from what I've been able to piece together (which is probably
mostly wrong) our guys went to Townsville and competed over last weekend, with
El Presidente Mal Lindsay taking out the Veteran DH class (he was the only
starter, but I promised not to tell anyone :), Berend Boer won U17 DH with
Aaron Edwards second, Andrew Sues was second in U19 DH with Michael
Christensen third, Darren Oleszkiewicz was second in Expert DH behind "Goose"
from Townsville, and John Wiren, Sean Garraway and (I'm told 'D. Johnson' but
I can't find anyone in our members list by that name so it might have been
Damien Jones but don't quote me) finished 1 - 2 - 3 in Hardtail DH. And I
think Shawn also got a placing in XC. If anyone can give me more information
it would be really appreciated!
Don't forget El Arish this weekend! It's
Mother's Day on Sunday, so bring your mother!
Wednesday April 28 2004
- Information on the Townsville event this weekend
(this is a little fragmented, CMTBC accepts no responsibility for any
incorrect information). Race day is Sunday May 2nd with XC to begin at 8.30am.
Assume that this is not nomination time, which should be earlier, and will
cost $15. Downhill gets underway at 2.00pm, so DH'ers should be there well in
advance of this time so that they can (a) nominate and (b) get some practice
runs in. Again, $15 nomination. The track to be used is the Douglas tracks,
situated behind JCU. Look for signs alongside the roads. The Rockwheelers have
a website which is under construction, but directions to the track are
available - go here
and then click on Ride Info down the bottom of the menu, then click on
Douglas. Have fun.
Saturday April 24 2004
- 8.00pm - Due to the inclement weather the racing at El Arish has been
POSTPONED for two weeks
Saturday April 24 2004
- Race times for the Suncorp NQ Games Downhill category have
been posted on the Results page
Thursday April 22 2004
- In their attempt to populate the planet and/or breed a future generation of
downhillers, Sarah and Russell Millard are proud to announce the arrival of
their latest son, Samuel, born this morning at Cairns Base Hospital. Mother
and son doing well, father wants to go riding since he's off work...
Thursday April 22 2004
- No scientific studies show that mountain bikers cause more wear to trails
than other users... You can read more on this on the
IMBA
Website
Monday April 18 2004 -
This is what we like to see... "Much of the
festival’s Sunday activity was focused on the Downhill Domination Gravity
Omnium, an allaround competition for gravity mountain biking’s top athletes
with two events on the day’s schedule.
Australian Mick Hannah (Haro/adidas) ran away with the men’s title, following
his win in Saturday’s Downhill Domination Dual Slalom with a victory in Sunday
morning’s MTB Downhill and a second place in Sunday afternoon’s Mountain
Cross." From the Sea Otter Classic press release.
Monday April 18 2004 -
Poster for El Arish now available with all the final times and
information; click on the thumbnail on the right to get a 150K version.
Definitely one of Russell's better posters... Also here's another quote from
the Sea Otter Classic: The Downhill Domination Dual Slalom saw a wave of
international riders step up to the podium at North America’s greatest cycling
festival. Australia swept the men’s
top 3, with Mick Hannah (Haro/Adidas) taking his first win of the season
in the Downhill Domination Dual Slalom, beating compatriots Wade Bootes
(Trek-Volkswagen) and Nathan Rennie (Santa Cruz Syndicate/Troy Lee). In the
women’s race, France’s Sabrina Jonnier (Intense Cycles) rode flawlessly to
first place, with another Australian, Jamis Cycles’ Katrina Miller placing
second. The lone American to achieve a top 3 result was Tara Llanes
(Giant-Pearl Izumi). GO MICK! (A little editorial bias creeping in there,
sorry bout dat! - GG)
Saturday April 17 2004
- Minor Calendar updates, plus here's a partial quote from the Sea Otter press
release: 'Friday afternoon also
featured mountain cross qualifying heats, the kick-off of Sea Otter’s Downhill
Domination Gravity Omnium. A field of 16 women was selected from 21 who raced,
and 60 men made the cut from the group of 71. The top five women were: Tara
Llanes (Giant/Pearl Izumi), Katrina Miller (Jamis Cycles), Sabrina Jonnier
(Intense Cycles), Jamie Lilly, and Leigh Donovan (GT/Hyundai). The top five
men were: Michael Robinson, Eric Carter (Mongoose/Hyundai), a Funn-Foes rider
registered as “Mr. Kamakazi”, Mick
Hannah (Haro/adidas) and Wade Books (Trek-Volkswagen).'
Tuesday April 13 2004
- Normie's report on the Suncorp NQ Games weekend is now on the Stories page.
Tuesday April 13 2004
- More details on the El Arish fun weekend: Saturday 24th April will be
Downhill practice all day, then a MountainCross event starting around 4.00pm.
On Sunday it's Cross country in the morning, but registration has been held
back until 8.00am to give people a bit more time to make the trip down (or up
if you're coming from Townsville!) with the race expected to start at 9.00am
but don't quote us on that. Downhill will commence at 12.00noon, presumably
with registration and some more practice, then the event itself. And of
course, after the race it will be party time... More (accurate) information
when Mr. Millard completes the poster and gets it to us.

Thursday April 8 2004 - Once again we have updated our website. It
isn't designed to be a "bells and whistles" site, it's designed to be
functional. Most importantly for our members, it's designed to be easily
updated to bring you the news as quickly as possible.
The photo gallery link will
always send you straight to the GordonG.com site - this will not change as
there is no point in loading all those photos in two different locations.
This site comes to you thanks to the
generosity of Internet Information Group in Cairns, who have supplied web
space and other facilities and now become a sponsor of our Club.
We look forward to keeping you up to date
and involved in what's going on in the mountain biking scene.
