NEWS and INFORMATION

Welcome to www.cairnsmtb.com!

Thursday 30 September - The Entry Form for the Cairns Mountain Bike Nationals is now available on the Nationals page - click the link to the left to get there! And if you didn't notice, the website has just had some pretty major changes...

Tuesday 28 September - Pony Express / XC final round is on Saturday, same time, same place as usual. Unfortunately, with the media release of the Nationals planned for tomorrow, and all the other things that have to be done, we haven't got a poster.

The schedule for the Mountain Bike Nationals has been finalised, and can be found as a pdf file on the event page. The entry form should be available within 24 hours.

There will be another working bee on the Downhill on Sunday - 8.00am at the container, please.

Sunday 26 September - Results and Championship points for the yesterday's XC & Pony Express race are now posted on the Results page.

Don't forget the meeting tomorrow night at Mal's place. Who knows what new information you might hear...

Wednesday 22nd September - Sorry about the delay, been having fun with a spine that doesn't work real well... Don't forget the Cross Country and Pony Express race coming up this Saturday! Registrations will not run late, so if you turn up after registrations close, you're either an official or a spectator. Some of the new XC course will be in use, so it's going to be good practice for the Nationals. Speaking of which...

Monday night's meeting covered a fairly small amount of territory, as there were only a few people there due to prior commitments and work.

One thing that was covered pretty extensively was the current push to move Forestry and Conservation Areas into being National Park. That means no bikes, no horses, nothing except feet. We need to work on this with the authorities, as there is no such thing as an activity permit in a National Park. If, for example, the Bump Track was to become a National Park, the RRR just fell over and died! Stay tuned for more on this - we want to work with National Parks, not against them.

Transport at the Nationals is a problem that may or may not get sorted out quickly. If necessary we will have to hire vehicles, and we don't really want to do that. So if you know anyone who could make themselves available over the race weekend who owns a Troopie or similar vehicle, please contact us.

Sunday 19th September - Another round of the Club Championships completed in MTX and DH, with DH using the new parts of the track in testing for the Nationals. For those who haven't seen it, I tried to take the photos in sequence from the top to the bottom so you can get an idea of what you're up for. Great racing, especially between Dennis Beare and Miles Mead, with Miles coming away with the win on what has to be a new track record as the old record (held by Dennis) no longer applies due to the major changes in the course. Photos at www.gordong.com as usual.

Many thanks to Normie for collating the results for the weekend, and also correcting the downhill points score because people had entered in the wrong age categories. The rules state "The definition on the class groups is 'a member is classified, for racing, according to their age as at March 31 of the current season. This is termed their 'racing age'." Our local racing season is from January through to November.

Don't forget the meeting tomorrow (Monday) night at Mal's place - things are starting to get really interesting...

XC / Pony Express race next Saturday, be early because registrations are backing up on us and forcing us to run late.

Tuesday 14th September - Things are really getting on a roll now! The MTBA Round is shaping up as being an absolute cracker, although there is still a ton of work to do. Live locally? Check out the "We Want You" poster up the top there. It's not a matter of "want" any more, it's more like "need". Thanks to those who have already volunteered because they want to help the Club make this the best ever round!

Some notes from last nights meeting (and don't forget to check the Forum, there's new stuff in there too):

Friday 10th September - The RRR Classic has its own website!

Thursday 9th September - How about this? From Damian, this pic shows a set of jumps "right in the middle of the Adelaide CBD"...

Tuesday 7th September - Don't worry, we haven't got lost, just a bit slow is all... Anyway:
Working bee on the Downhill track 8.00am this Sunday (12th) following the highly successful working bee last weekend. Thanks to all those who attended and helped. I hear there was a shortage of tools!

There will be a site inspection 7.30am this Saturday (11th) to check out some of the locations to be used for areas such as the tech centre, which is starting to sound more and more like a bike expo! Anyway, if you missed the meeting last night and need to catch up, the container is the place to be.

Timing for the Nationals will be contracted out.

Brad has his start gate designed, now he just needs some materials to build it. Anyone got a large pile of RHS lying around?

Next meeting next Monday night.

Tuesday 31st August - The front page just went on a diet :)

Monday 30th August - That which was lost is found - Gordon Dixon is pleased to report that he's found his watch...

From tonight's meeting:
For the Nationals Round, the Cairns Mountain Bike Club is pleased to announce the appointment of a "Preferred Place to Stay" - The Beach House on Sheridan Street, Cairns, has come up with a great package for riders. For a minimum stay of three nights, the Beach House is offering accommodation at $16 per night, plus discounts on meals, plus donations of prize-money and a keg for the after-event party! The Beach House can be contacted on 1800 229 228 and are on the web at www.cairnsbeachhouse.com.au Check them out and support them, they're supporting you! And yes, you can take your bike into your room... When you contact them, don't forget to mention you're coming to the Mountain Bike Nationals!

Santa Cruz has also come on board as a sponsor, with donations of prize-money and a Santa Cruz Chameleon hardtail frame as a raffle prize. Anyone wanting a few hundred tickets can email us...

The next working bee will be this Sunday commencing at 8.00am to work on the Downhill track. Please be there in your multitudes, and if the weather is anything like it was yesterday, bring heaps of water and sunscreen!

Sunday 29th August (Updated) - WOW! 146 riders turned up to contest the 15th running of the RRR Classic from Mt Molloy to Port Douglas today in almost perfect weather conditions - it could have been a tad cooler, but that's life in the tropics. Riders came from everywhere, including New  Zealand!

Congratulations to everyone who entered, and to all those who helped make it happen - you know who you are. Results are now available on the Results page, and photos are available in the usual place. Many thanks to Normie for his excellent work on the timing and scoring - it isn't easy to do, especially under the circumstances! Please note that all results remain provisional for a further 48 hours.

Lost items: One watch, lost at the Port Douglas Beach - anyone with any info please contact gordon@downundertours.com and a pair of black riding gloves were left at Vains Park. Mt Molloy - if anyone picked them up please email the Club.

Doesn't let anyone off the hook, there's still a meeting tomorrow night at Mal's place, 7.pm :)
