2013 F.N.Q Minjin / Endurp Cup Round.3
Ok kiddies, playtime is over.
Enduro is taking a giant leap forwards for Round.3
Longer, harder, hillier… This is going to sort you lot out!
Round.3 of the 2013 F.N.Q Minjin / Enduro Cup | June 15/16.
Enduro
Same time, same location, same format…
Get your pedaling legs sorted, you are going to need them! This time round the course is leaving no stone unturned!
Starting from base camp, you will make your way over and up to Myndas (Oceans View look-out) for the start of stage 1.
Stage 1: Descending Myndas, you follow the same course as the previous Round Stage 1. Down Jacobs Ladder, down Catterpillars. But you don’t stop there! Enter back into Moranas, wind your way through the forest and continue up and back down the complete 1st Finger (Wobbegong), finishing at the bridge at the bottom of the descent.
You will have a brief break, make your way over to the bottom of 3rd Finger for Stage 2.
Stage 2: Climb and descend the full upper 3rd Finger (Black Marlin) loop, turning right at the bottom onto Blue Marlin and making your way up onto WellaWella and back down finishing at the DH access road gate.
Here is where the going gets tough. Pedal up, and up, and up, and up, and up the access road. Continue past the previous rounds Stage 3 start and another 400m further up you will find the ancient, hidden gem that is Happys. Scraped back out of retirement since last being used in 1994, you start the 3rd and final stage.
Stage 3: Descend Happys all the way to the bottom, where you will jump back out onto the the access road at the MP39 turn-off. Continue down MP39, making your way down through to the club site exit (the same exit as the previous rounds finish), sprinting to the finish point, back at base camp.
The aim for this round is purely to evolve on the concept, and create a longer, more challenging course for the riders. We have more flats, more climbing, and more descent; something for everyone. We understand Happys is a (re-opened) new trail to most. Make the most of the next 2-3 weeks in leading up to the Enduro to get out and make yourself familiar with the trail. It is a twisty, technical descent. Take your time, and familiarize yourself with what you will be racing.
When: Saturday June 15
Time: Please be on site and ready no later than 2:45pm! Riders briefing is at 3pm sharp then you are sent straight out onto the course. (We ask all helpers to arrive and be ready before 2:30pm!)
How: Online registrations only! Head to the following link to register! $20 for entry + $20 if you require an MTBA day-license. – Closes Midnight, Thursday June 13
https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/ERegister.aspx?E=1530
*Please note you only require 1 day license if you are racing both DH and Enduro – $55 entry for riders registering for both events.
Downhill
Not much else to add here.
Same time, same format, same track! The new format has bed in well and since everyone is familiar with it, we will be seeing it through the rest of the season!
A note for all riders, due to numbers increasing, to be fair and also to keep timing less of a hassle we are capping the number of timed runs at 5. So play the game wisely!
Again, we stress the importance of asking all riders adhere to the safety regulations. ALL riders MUST have either knee or shin pads, a full face helmet (MUST be done up), with 3/4 length jerseys a strong recommendation (Junior U15 / U17 MUST have either elbow pads or the 3/4 length jersey). Bikes must have working front and rear brakes, and bar ends.
When: Sunday June 16
Time: Practice shuttles will kick off from 8am. ‘Open-hill’ will start from roughly 10:30am and run through until 2:30pm for the last shuttles.
How: Online registrations only! Head to the following link to register! $45 for entry + $20 if you require an MTBA day-license. – Closes Midnight, Thursday June 13
https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/ERegister.aspx?E=1530
*Please note you only require 1 day license if you are racing both DH and Enduro – $55 entry for riders registering for both events.
Again, we are asking if anyone is willing to lend a hand and help out with the running of events, please email dh@cairnsmtb.com
- We need timers and stage starters for Enduro (5 in total).
- For downhill we need course marshals, spare starters, and shuttle drivers. If anyone is willing to lend the use of their 4wd (preferably a dual-cab ute) this also is a great help to maximising the ride-time for all participants.
*Anyone helping out on the DH, you are given vouchers for food and drink. Also we wish to make it clear you do not need to spend the entire day doing your job. The more helpers we can get, everyone can take turns and help out only in 1-2 hours blocks, giving you ample time to still enjoy the day and watch the action!
A big thankyou to the the 2013 F.N.Q Minjin / Enduro Cup series sponsor, Larry and the team at Discovery Cycles!

2013 F.N.Q Minjin/Enduro Cup Round 1
It’s time.
Round one of the 2013 F.N.Q Minjin/Enduro Cup is just around the corner.
2013 is shaping up to be a huge year for the Cairns Mountain Bike club, with what will be without a doubt the biggest Gravity series on offer yet.
Not only will you be racing the Minjin, but brand new for 2013 is Enduro. Bring your DH ninja skills and throw them in a cauldron of leg burning, back breaking fun as you go head to head with riders from all disciplines.
A brief breakdown of both events are as followed:
Saturday 13 | 2013 F.N.Q Enduro Cup Round 1
The plan: Riders all start at 00:00 and will be each given a unique start list for checkpoints 1, 2 and 3. Riders have an allocated time limit to be at each of the checkpoints, whereby if they miss their start time, they are not recorded for that checkpoint.
As an example: Rider John Doe has 10:00 (from 00:00) to be at checkpoint 1. He is timed for that stage and is required to be at checkpoint 2 by 25:00. He is timed for that stage and is required to be at checkpoint 3 by 48:00. When every rider has completed the checkpoints and are back at the finish, the winner is the rider who has the lowest total time over the three stages.
The start points for each stage will be marked (And manned with a start person with the list) with the stages themselves bunted/taped. It is up to the rider how they wish to make their way to each checkpoint, so long as they are on the line and ready to start by their allocated time.
The Enduro courses are all different and will change for every round. They will be announced the week leading up to the race, giving riders a fair indication as to what will be included in the stages and where they might need to go practice/familiarise themselves with.
It is to be noted that the timed stages will not take place down dedicated DH trails where deemed to dangerous for the average rider. However the stages will be made up of predominately descending trail varying in the equivalent of green and blue trail.
If you are unsure before you nominate, you have the week leading up to the race to checkout what you will be riding!
Registration is online only at https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/ERegister.aspx?E=1439
- $35 + $20 (If you require a day-licence)
-This is an open catagory event, everything is up against the clock
-Riders briefing and course briefing will be at 3pm SHARP, with the clock starting at 3:30pm SHARP
-Courses are planned out to run a total of between 1-2 hours
Sunday 14 | 2013 F.N.Q Minjin Cup Round 1
The plan: Back for 2013 is everyones favourite jungle track. Same format, same place, same time. We have an exciting series lined up for 2013, with a full points championship series being implemented. To make things more competitive, progressive series leaders will be racing for the leaders 01 plate (U17, U19 and Elite only). We have an exciting array of prizes and giveaways this year, with alot of support from the industry and locally. DO NOT MISS OUT! CairnsMTB is on the verge of entering the biggest era of their history over the next 4 years, and the sport is skyrocketing in popularity. A practice session will be planned for the Saturday before races, however is not set in stone as to avoid conflict with the running of Enduro.
Registration is online only at https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/ERegister.aspx?E=1439
$40 + $20 (If you require a day-licence)

A note for everyone, if you wish to compete in both the Enduro and DH, you can select this via the online registration for a discounted price.

Help Needed!
Hi all,
With the gravity/enduro season coming up fast, we are putting a callout for potential (and reliable) volunteers to give a hand and help keep our season running smoothly.
As you probably all know we are holding a second ‘Trial-enduro’ and an open gate/come and try DH day this weekend the 16th/17th March.
We are asking if anyone can spare some time over the course of the weekend to help out with the proceedings.
Firstly, a few hours Saturday morning is required to finish whippersnipping around the DH/Enduro race headquarters to tidy the place up a bit (Adam Gowlett and Landon Stroud have made a HUGE headstart) and an hour to walk down the DH trail and quickly whippersnip the grassy sections and to snip and lowhanging branches/vines. Also required is to lay down some chicken wire on the woodern berm as, well… wood and rain… I think you can see what i mean.
Saturday afternoon from 3pm we will be running the Enduro. Help will be needed with timing, a more detailed description will be given on the day but we would require 6-7 people to assist over the three timed stages, going for (roughly) 2 hours.
Sunday we are holding the DH Open gate / come and try day. The only help we require here is if you can all spread the word and get anyone you may know of to come and see what we are all about! 2013 is shaping up to be a tremendous year, dont miss out!
In following, if anyone is available for of the before-mentioned tasks this weekend, or
if you wish to register your interest in volunteering some time for the 2013 DH/Enduro events, feel free to email dh@cairnsmtb.com
A full list of volunteer requirements are being formatted for both DH and Enduro events and will be sent out in the lead up to every race to fill the jobs needed doing to keep them running smoothly, so if there is something you can help out with, let us know! We are a community run club, you fund our trails, the maintenance and you run our races, so get in and get involved
Thanks!
Craig / Reilly (DH/Enduro co-ordinators)
